Rebates
Vermont rebates for electrifying a house
Rebates here come from the utility and the state programs, and each sets its own amounts and rules. We name the programs and send you to their pages, so what you read is current.
Burlington Electric Department
The city’s own utility. If your electric bill comes from it, its programs are the first place to look.
Green Mountain Power
Serves most other homes in Chittenden County. Read its current programs for heat pumps, water heaters and chargers.
Efficiency Vermont
A statewide program that works with the utilities. It keeps the lists of equipment and the contractors it works with.
Order of steps
Before you sign anything
- 01
Read your utility’s page
Find the program for the equipment you want and read who qualifies.
- 02
Ask about approved contractors
Some programs want a contractor on their list. Ask each one, and ask us; we will tell you where we stand before you sign.
- 03
Wait for the rebate rules
Some programs want approval before the work starts. Check first.
- 04
Keep the paper
The invoice, the model number, photos of the work and the permit sign-off.
Our part
What we hand you for the claim
A rebate form asks what was installed and who did the work. We write the invoice to answer both without back and forth:
Every unit listed by make, model and serial number. The circuit and panel photographed after the work. The permit and inspection sign-off, where the job needed them. The license line on the invoice.
The quote is the price before any rebate. The utility pays the rebate to you, on its schedule and by its own rules.

Rebate questions
Is a rebate guaranteed?
No. The program decides, and it can change or pause. We cannot promise an amount, so the quote never counts on one.
Who files the form?
You do, in most programs, because the rebate is paid to you. We give you the invoice and photos the form asks for, and we can sit with you while you fill it in.
Do I need a panel upgrade to qualify?
Not usually. A program pays for the equipment. The panel is our side of the job: whether the house can carry the new load.
Can I get a rebate for work after the fact?
Some programs allow it and some do not. Read the program page before the work starts.
Ready to start with the panel?
The panel check tells you what the house can carry, in writing, before you pick a unit.
